My Philosophy Statements

  1. Good writing focuses on meaning above mechanics.
  2. Literacy is fundamental to all other learning and should be given priority from a very early age. .
  3. One size of education does not fit all, so a variety of teaching methods need to be used to help students learn.
  4. Although students enter the educational race at different starting points, all are capable of making progress.
  5. Progress should be emphasized above competition and all students should be challenged to do their personal best.
  6. Students should be allowed to take risks and make mistakes in order to grow as learners.
  7. Learning becomes more significant when new knowledge is connected to old.
  8. The learner is an active participant with prior knowledge and experiences, rather than an empty vessel to be filled.
  9. Learning is about more than the regurgitation of facts in order to get good grades; it should develop critical thinking skills and a lifelong love of learning.
  10. Students are more motivated and learn best when there is a purpose to their learning, an end goal.
